I know stores always jump the gun and start advertising back to school sales about a week after I get out of school. One part of me feels like summer didn’t even start – I didn’t even have a change to sleep in yet! The other part of me is secretly excited, because let’s face it, we all love to shop…especially for school supplies. This post is the highlight of my shopping this past week. Although I know it doesn’t compare to some other teacher bloggers out there, let’s keep in mind that I already have a ton of stuff in my room, and I’ll only be teaching at my current school one more year before my husband and I move out of state. 🙂
Now, I’ll be the first to admit, I love school supplies, but even more, I love storage…anything storage. Storage containers, cabinets, shelves, boxes, bins….everything. I sometimes come home with another storage item to organize our too-small closets to a husband who says the closets are only small because there are too many plastic Sterilite storage containers in them. He’s right. But, I can buy it for my classroom, that way it won’t clutter my house! Well, I was really good today when I went to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. This Rolling Cart with rainbow drawers was my Michael’s purchase. It is originally $80, but it was 50% off and I used my 15% teacher’s discount. It ended up being $34 including tax. I’m going to use it to sort and store construction paper. Last year, I just put it in a filing cabinet but within a few weeks, it was extremely disorganized.
Next, I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased these 6 quart Sterilite organizers…you know…the size that will fit a pair of shoes. They come 5 per pack and were $10.00. I used my 40% off coupon (and dragged my husband along to use one on the second set) so, I almost got one for free. I’m thinking these will be perfect for math manipulatives and craft supplies. They’re the perfect size to keep on the tall shelves of my bookcases. I was going in to this thinking the lids would be blue because that’s what I saw on their website, but I am thrilled to have the pink!
These black and turquoise bins were in the Target Dollar Spot! They also had purple, but I needed 4 and wanted to have an equal amount of colors. I am going to do Literacy Centers four days a week. Every day there will be a new special center for the students to do (I’ll post more about these later). I want to have it organized so one of the special centers will have it’s own basket. That way, I can keep all the materials for it organized and if a student needs to go back later during the day, or on the catchup day that I plan on having on Fridays, it will still be available for the students.
Now, for some more Target finds. I’m going to start from bottom up. I got the red duct tape in the dollar section and plan on using that to tape down my red rug. Somehow, the corners started curling up a lot this year and I don’t want anyone to trip. Hopefully, it won’t leave a sticky mess on the floor when I take it off at the end of the year. The next is black polka dot packing tape. They had a bunch of other colors too, and I contemplated getting one of each, but I didn’t want to have a ton of different patterns going on. I don’t even know what I’ll use it for yet, but it was just too pretty to pass up. The large Scotch tape was not in the dollar section, but it is a necessity for me. Our building isn’t air conditioned and nothing will stick to the wall except for this stuff. I’ve tried everything!
Now, my favorite purchase, A KEURIG! I have the Platinum series at home which is amazing, but a bit much for a classroom. My problem is that I live about 30 minutes away from school and by the time I make the coffee and drive there, get settled in, and take my first sip, it’s already luke-warm. 🙁 I bought this at Kohls when they had it on sale for $100, but I had a 30% off coupon from the mail that I used to bring down the cost. It’ll definitely get a TON of use. I just hope this little guy will hold up for the whole year. The best thing about the Keurig in my classroom is that I can get my stash of a million K-Cups out of my pantry and get my husband off my back for always purchasing more flavors before finishing the ones I already have. It’s an addition. I admit it.
Well, there you have it. My Back-To-School shopping for the week. I think I’m done with my major purchases, but you never know… I might not be able to hold out if I spot another good deal.
What have you purchased this year ? Leave a link in the comments. I’d love to see it (and if I have enough self control…not purchase it for myself).
